All tunnels need support as the excavation proceeds and until the final lining is installed.
Casagrande has developed and produces a series of special machines for the treatment and stabilization of soils and rock ahead of the tunnel face and about the tunnel perimeter.
These machines are used to construct an arch around the tunnel's periphery, ahead of the face. The arch provides support in weak soils, so that excavation may be carried out safely without the use of expensive, temporary support systems. It also ensures that deformations are kept within acceptable limits.
